The Tropical Biology Association is pleased to announce that it will be running its first field course in Guinea Bissau this autumn in partnership with CIBIO (Research Centre in Biodiversity and Genetic Resources), from University of Porto, Portugal. This course will be implemented within the scope of the Tropibio project, which aims to build capacity to develop excellent research towards innovation, contributing to the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity and ecosystems. This will be TBA’s first Portuguese-speaker course and is aimed at young conservationists from Portuguese-speaking Africa and Portugal. It takes place in Djalicunda, Guinea-Bissau from mid-October, for two weeks.

This course is designed for undergraduate or graduate students in natural sciences who have a strong interest in tropical biology but limited experience. Over the period of the course, participants will engage in practical training and fieldwork in a tropical environment to consolidate their knowledge. The course will introduce participants to the site, its diverse habitats, biodiversity, and social context.

The twenty participants will carry out practical work, develop their own projects and attend lectures and talks given by instructors and local guests who work in the field of ecology and conservation in Guinea-Bissau, but also other Portuguese speaking countries in the tropics and subtropics.
