Access TBA Training from Anywhere

The Tropical Biology Association’s new online courses have increased our outreach so more aspiring conservationists are benefiting from our training and, as a result, having a greater impact on the ground. Our online courses combine the tools that today’s online environment offers with TBA’s trademark interactive and inspiring teaching style. Teaching is creative and immersive, giving people practical skills and understanding they can apply afterwards. As well as expanding our reach, going online has expanded the range of topics we teach, which means significantly more conservationists can make a tangible difference to conservation in their own countries.

Specialist Courses for Conservation Professionals

The TBA uses e-learning best practice and our 20+ years’ experience to design courses are as motivating and engaging as “face to face training”. Our portfolio of online courses is based on our existing specialist courses, as well as generating new courses in response to current demand for professional training.

These courses fill specific skills gaps that conservation professionals tell us are holding them back in their work. The content is relevant and immediately applicable by the participants so they can strengthen their conservation impacts after the course. An important element of our online courses is that the students receive feedback from our multi-disciplinary pool of tutors – this means that participants refine and strengthen their own ideas straightaway, and gain confidence too.

Looking Ahead

The potential for online learning for conservation is still relatively undeveloped. Yet there is a growing array of creative and innovative tools that have enormous potential to bring learning about real-world conservation to life. The TBA is now developing plans to achieve this potential and we are looking for partners to work with us to do this.

We are developing virtual field courses that will give students the same skills and experiences that a real-world course provides. The virtual courses will be based on TBA’s signature field courses that have launched the careers of over 2,000 conservation scientists. These virtual field courses will immerse students in tropical habitats, so they can develop observation skills, and work together to carry out research projects and analyse real data.

We would be delighted to work with new partners – from both the conservation and e-technology community – so that we can develop innovative virtual courses and have greater impact conservation.
