Forest Restoration in Africa: A Practical Training Course

ABOUT THE COURSE

The course is designed for African conservation practitioners and managers involved in the restoration and conservation of forests.

Participants will acquire knowledge and skills essential to the design and management of restoration projects. In this course, field exercises, site visits, and group discussions will be used as part of the practical approach. It will also serve as an opportunity for managers from different countries to share their experiences regarding restoration successes and challenges.

Topics will include:

  • The application of ecological knowledge to forest restoration
  • An overview of the different approaches to restoration aimed at conserving biodiversity and ensuring sustainable livelihood
  • A forest’s role in providing nature-based solutions
  • The design and planning of projects for maximum impact
  • Monitoring – and communicating – the impacts of restoration

Price: All travel and course costs are covered for successful applicants. We will not pay per diems.

Requirements: This course is open to African conservationists that:

1) Are involved in forest conservation or restoration

2) Are in a position, and willing to apply their new knowledge after the course

3) Are proficient in English

4) Preferably hold a Master’s degree
